Quitting
smoking is one of the hardest things that you will ever have to do.
Taking more than one session would be even more frustrating. The truth
is that you are probably frustrated with yourself every time you smoke,
so to leave our office after your first session still smoking would be
considered a failure on our part. With this belief, we have found that
the vast majority of people can quit smoking after just one session. In
the rare occurrence that a person does not quit in one session or notice a vast improvement, a
refund, or an additional session focused on fine-tuning the session is
offered. Again, it is our mission and experience that you will quit in
one session.
"I am frustrated"
"I am really starting to notice the effects"
"I hide my habit from my family and friends"
"I am sick of it by now, but I just can't stop!"
Why we allow ourselves to continue to smoke:
We
obviously realize that smoking is bad for us and that
we should quit. It is printed on many billboards, commercials, and on
even on every pack of cigarettes that we buy. We allow ourselves to
smoke, however, because for a few moments when we really have that urge,
we simply turn down that voice in our head that tells us that it is
dangerous, unhealthy, and unattractive. When we finish that cigarette,
many times that voice reappears, at which point we can say that we will
never have one again, or at least that we will stop after this day,
week, or month.
There are two reasons that we allow ourselves to
temporarily turn down that voice in our minds. One reason we do this is
that for a few moments, we want to allow ourselves to enjoy that
cigarette. If we were to think a thought that contradicts our behavior,
we would experience discomfort and not enjoy the cigarette. In fact,
during those times that we are smoking, if someone is so nice as to
remind us that smoking is bad for us, our immediate reaction is anger
since we were already working so hard to ignore that fact.
The other reason that we allow ourselves to not hear the
voice telling us to stop smoking is that another voice is louder. This
loud voice may be telling you that you are anxious, upset about your
relationship, or had a bad day at work and that smoking is the only way
to feel better. This, however, is not true. In fact, after you have the cigarette, you generally feel much worse
about yourself, and thus the cycle continues.
NY Health Hypnosis is Different:
We understand the psychological reasons for why you smoke. We don't offer the kind of hypnosis that works merely on suggestion and makes you think that smoking is bad. You already know that smoking is bad for you. Instead, we work on readjusting your thoughts about smoking altogether, so that you view quitting in terms of being rid of your struggle and frustration, as opposed to quitting something that you think you enjoy.
This is the difference between going to a hypnotist with or with psychological training and understanding your mindset. If we were to simply try to make you quit smoking without this understanding, you may go back to it later, or worse, pick up a different habit. Thus, we will make sure to address your fears such as failure, not having an outlet for stress, or gaining weight, so that you do not just trade in one problem for another. It is about being a better you and ending the frustration - not just quitting smoking.
We encourage you to browse our
website to find information on hypnosis and how it can help you. Phone
consultations are free and we look forward to answering any questions
that you have about hypnosis and our particular method.
